I love getting gift cards for bookstores. A family in the church blessed me with a $25 gift card to Barnes & Noble. I am heading out later this morning to pick up John Adams by David McCullough. I started reading this book a couple of years ago after seeing it at our local library. I renewed it 3-4 times, and I still didn't finish it back then! At least I'll own it now, so I don't feel guilty taking my time reading it.
I was never interested in history until post-college, and it has only been within the last few years that I have started reading historical biographies. McCullough is a favorite author of mine; he wrote 1776 which is a phenomenal book. I highly recommend it!
Any other historical biographies I should read?

In Acts 17 the Apostle Paul is in Athens at a meeting place called the Areopagus - the gathering place for all those interested in "talking about and listening to the latest ideas." I have mused for some time that coffeehouses are the new Areopagus. The coffeehouse environment seems to encourage people to be more open with their hearts and their thoughts. About Me
- Chris Genders
- I am a staff member at Great Oaks Community Church in Germantown Hills, IL. An avid student of leadership and organizational development, I have just recently joined the staff of GOCC to lead and develop their adult small group program. I will also have the opportunity to serve as one of the teaching pastors during the weekend services. I have earned a B.S. in Business from Eastern Illinois University in 1996 and an M.A. in Leadership from Lincoln Christian Seminary in 2004. My wife, Karen, and I have been married for 12 years. We have two children, Ethan and Morgan. In addition to reading and spending time with my family, I enjoy backpacking, camping, whitewater rafting, and many other outdoor activities. My favorite activity at this time is taking my kids for nature walks whenever possible.
